The three information sources
- Manufacturer spec sheets. Capacity, output, weight, ports, noise and warranty are taken from the official product pages of each brand. When a spec is not published, we write “to be confirmed” instead of guessing.
- Official documentation. Manuals, safety documentation and support pages are used for details such as fuel requirements, CO shutoff behavior and charging rules.
- Aggregated buyer feedback. Patterns reported by many owners (a port that fails early, a unit that is louder than the spec sheet suggests) inform the practical “limitation” notes in our guides. Individual anecdotes are never presented as facts.
What each check covers
When a product appears in a guide, we look at the same core points:
| Criterion | Where the data comes from | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity (Wh) | Manufacturer spec sheet | How long the unit can run your loads |
| Rated and surge output (W) | Manufacturer spec sheet | Which appliances it can start and keep running |
| Weight and ports | Manufacturer spec sheet | Whether it fits your trips and your devices |
| Noise and fuel (generators) | Manuals and official specs | Where you can realistically run it |
| Common owner complaints | Aggregated buyer feedback | Practical limitations that spec sheets omit |
Keeping information current
Product pages change and prices move. Articles show a “Last updated” date, and product data lives in a single data file so a correction updates every page that mentions the product.
How we make money
The site may earn a commission when you buy through links to retailers. This never changes the price you pay and never decides what we write. The full explanation is on the affiliate disclosure page.
